Flow conditions right now are more like nice steelhead water and higher then typical fall flows. All the trib flows look on the retreat from previous snowmelt and precipitation. More then likely flows will be on the rise in the near future and hydro managers could bump flows up beforehand in anticipation of higher run of the river flows to come. And lest we forget brown trout where world-class waters such as Niagara River, Oswego River, Oak Orchard Creek, Eighteenmile Creek, Sandy Creek and Maxwell Creek provide peak fishing opportunities in November and December. Downstream frog water areas are all open with no icing conditions yet. Good chance that flows can be contained in the turbine channel so look for a good head of turbine water. Those fish are there somewhere and its likely not in the same old downstream water but probably upstream nearer where Kings are concentrated. So, flows, weather and fishing action are somewhat up and down. Be aware the east side Oak Orchard River Point Breeze boat launch is closed for construction (new ramp) so just go the west side launch.. Small boat trollers and casters both in on the action with glow hardware and/or plugs. Water temps have flirted with 40F but should slide back with the forecasted colder weather ahead. A little rise in flows and some stain to the water makes for a willing biter with this nearly 20 pound hen steelhead. Even clear water finds the caster at an advantage over the troller. It was getting a bit frustrating so since it was a short trip we worked our way back to the nose and started fishing for lake trout.
